Beautiful creatures

< Euricania splendida spotted at ipyum

Raja Ampat is world-famous for its marine biodiversity — but the beauty doesn’t stop at the shoreline. Here at Ipyum, we’re constantly surprised by the creatures we encounter on land.

This stunning insect, Euricania splendida, appeared just outside our kitchen one morning. Its wing patterns look like miniature owl eyes — nature’s camouflage at its most striking. A few days earlier, we spotted a Palm Cockatoo with deep midnight-blue feathers, quietly watching us from a tree. And the shimmering emerald green lizards? They’re regulars. Quick, curious, and absolutely beautiful.

The truth is, we’ve only begun to scratch the surface. With no roads or trails inland — and most of our time focused on construction — the forest beyond remains a mystery. But soon, we’ll start exploring further. And we can’t wait to see what we find.
