Genset boogie
ipyum is being built from scratch in a place with no existing infrastructure — no power grid, no water supply, no internet. We’re creating it all ourselves. Solar is the long-term plan (we’re on the equator, after all), but it’s expensive. So for now, we rely on petrol-powered generators.
Our Honda gensets are known for being reliable, efficient, and quiet. But running them full time takes a toll. When both stopped working at the same time — yikes — we had to get creative. We borrowed a genset from our wood supplier, sent the smaller one to Jakarta for repairs, and found an excellent mechanic in Sorong for the larger unit.
Being an entrepreneur out here means dancing when the music changes. No one had the full solution on their own — but together, we figured it out. That’s how things get done at ipyum: as a team, with a bit of improvisation, and a sense of humor.
